Have you heard about the starvation diet? Basically it's the idea that we as Americans eat too much and as a rule are overweight, so instead of continuing on the same path researchers have found that in comparing to like individuals (whether they be animals like mice or in our case humans) by restricting the diet to a point where the calorie intake is limited to around 20% less than what the USDA and other agencies or groups consider is optimal. Now these numbers obviously will be different based on height and weight, but the outcome is still the same. Participants in the starvation diet lose weight, feel great and on top of that they gain added brain function - and this added brain function is across the spectrum. So it applies to memory, cognition, perception, etc.
So basically, by applying the same laws one is taught in logic or verbal reasoning classes (if A = B. and B = C then A must = C) we find that by limiting one's caloric intake to where one is literally hungry but not starved, one can actually not only become healthier but become smarter. Recent studies at Cornell University, Harvard and Yale have shown that this is true and is the case. Now I don't know about you, but I wouldn't mind being 20% smarter and I'm sure that most other people wouldn't mind that either, so you may want to duel a research on your own first which I always advise to anyone before ever taking anyone's advice (always research) and then after that you may want to try the starvation diet.
It's interesting that it is called the starvation that really isn't starvation it's just the fact that you under eat a little bit (around 20%). Some studies have used lesser differences and still come up with remarkable findings in memory improvement in overall brain function improvement. It would be interesting to note how these studies would work in the cases of Alzheimer's or genetically predisposed Alzheimer's and other possible mental diseases and shortcomings cases.

So apparently what it says in the Bible that your body is to be kept as a temple it really is good advice. By eating just the right amounts of food and not over indulging oneself one can gain true whole body health. And apparently there is a link here between body health and mental health. So if your body is not healthy, overweight, etc. then it will affect your mind and your mental capacity. Now this is not to say that overweight people are not as smart as other people - that is far from the point here. The real point here is that anybody can gain both physical and mental health through proper diet and nutrition.
One mainstay of the starvation diet is that all foods eaten are very healthy and in many cases organic with little or no preservatives, low sodium and low fats. One fat or type of fat that is important in its mainstay of the starvation diet is of course the omega-3 fatty acids which are important to cardiovascular health and mental health. These fatty acids can be found in salmon, tuna and of course over-the-counter fish pills.
Another particular ingredient we found to be used quite frequently in these diets was spinach. Spinach has been known for quite some time to be a wonder food. It is one of the healthiest vegetables of all with its high composition of minerals and vitamins and other good things all necessary to our body and minds for proper function. It should also be noted that spinach just like broccoli and some of the other better vegetables or wonder foods as they may be called is loaded with antioxidants and other anticancer properties. So maybe we will also find this piece studies progress that these people on these calorie restricted diets due to the fact they produce less free radicals which are the byproducts can cause and bring about cancer may in fact reduce the occurrence of some individual types of cancer or all cancers together.

We already know that it's important to have good nutrition and exercise, now you know it's good to be just the right amount to fill your body's needs but not to engorge one's self. Overeating is not just bad for your health but is also bad for your mind. Maybe what the starvation diet and these researchers have found is a midpoint between fasting and previously recommended healthy eating by the USDA. The USDA's recommendations as a whole are very good and well meant especially for a overweight society like the US is today. But researchers in the last 30 years have found it in various types of fasting help the body to cleanse out toxins that are built up from over indulging in different foods and sweets and things that are just not healthy.
Through the years there have been soup fasts, juice fasts, etc. Well fasting has been proven to help the body eliminate toxins and to gain greater health but it is also something that many people are either not not willing to do or are unable to do. So maybe instead by under eating a little bit every day and at every meal you get a little bit of the fasting but with a lot of the benefit. Instead of like a fast which you only do once in a while to cleanse your body for a couple weeks or a month, with the starvation diet it's an ongoing thing that occurs every day and this makes sure your body doesn't get the chance to build up those harmful toxins in the 1st place (it's important to note that many researchers and studies have proven that the build up of toxins in the body can bring upon disease or sickness).
So the point here is there is a very valid claim to eating only what your body needs and not eating any more than that. By under eating a little every day we also help to purifying cleanser bodies and rid it of toxins and reduce the occurrence and build up of free radicals which can cause all kinds of maladies like cancer, gout, cardiovascular disease, etc. so maybe next time you get that feeling or that urge to eat instead of grabbing that candy bar or going to a fast food restaurant like McDonald's or Burger King or Wendy's for a greasy burger loaded with harmful fats, instead pick up something of lower calories like juice or even water and keep the calorie count down and give your health and brainpower a boost. Try the starvation diet, you just might like it. It is important to note that before undertaking any new diet or exercise regimens that one be sure and see their doctor to make sure that their doctor approves of it and that they are healthy enough to engage in it. Good luck and good health.
