It’s not clear whether the sun has always been dangerous to us, scientists tell us that the hole in the ozone layer results in more radiation passing through and so causing damage to our skin. Scientists also state that it could be increased solar activity in our sun and the extra radiation it is producing (you can see this on various documentary programs on the Discover Channel and National Geographic).  Regardless, there are steps you can take to minimize or stop this damage to your skin (like wearing a hat outside that covers not only your face, but also your ears).

You don’t have to be exposed to the sun to develop some of these conditions, the dangerous part of sunlight is UV light, this is part of the spectrum that we can’t see, however it does damage to our skin. Many of the sun beds and tanning beds in use rely on UV bulbs to give you a tan, these are therefore as dangerous, if not more dangerous than the sun (many of these beds have been declared as very dangerous to your skins health and yet 62% of the population in the U.S. still uses them).  Spray tanning is a safer bet and yet only 10 to 15% of the population uses them (probably due to their higher expense and the fact that spray tans don’t last as long).
